MAYODAN — A church that was being investigated by the N.C. Board of Elections has filed finance reports with Rockingham County and may continue its efforts to oppose liquor by the drink.2

In 1953, he sold the paper but remained its editor until his death on July 8, 1964. Mr. London served Rockingham and Richmond County in various capacities, including chairman of the Rockingham School Board, chairman of the Richmond County Draft Board, and chairman of the Richmond County Board of Elections.3

The Board of Elections consists of three (3) members appointed for two-year terms by the N. C. State Board of Elections upon the recommendations of the political parties. The Board of Elections is the County agency charged with the responsibility for administering the elections for Watauga County, including the municipal, county, state, and federal elections and special referenda.5

The State Board of Elections is the state agency charged with overall responsibility for administration of the elections process and campaign finance disclosure in North Carolina. It is the only statutory bi-partisan, quasi-judicial supervisory board in North Carolina State government.6

The current probes were sparked by a May 15 elections board hearing in which investigators said they developed evidence that Wright had failed to report campaign contributions and expenses. They also presented a letter written in 2002 by a state health official that awarded what investigators said was a bogus $150,000 grant to a foundation Wright controlled.7
